Interviewers Need Training, Too!

Managers prioritize improving their communication skills when it comes to presentations, negotiation, or having difficult conversations. But I've found they tend to assume they're already amazing at interviewing candidates, unless someone has given them specific feedback otherwise. 🤔

Beyond the day to day anecdotal data (i.e. bad interview experiences) I've gathered from my job-seeker clients, there's data that points to the fact that folks are probably not as great at interviewing as they think they are:

- A 2025 Robert Half survey showed 30% of 2,200 hiring managers made a hiring mistake in the previous 2 years, and 57% of those hiring managers said it contributed to additional turnover on their team.
- University of Phoenix Career Institute reported this year that 57% of hiring stakeholders surveyed said they need better training to evaluate candidates’ skills, and 24% of the non-HR stakeholders surveyed never received interview training.

If you’re a hiring manager, how confident are you that your interview team knows how to effectively interview a candidate and evaluate how it went?

Before your next hire, it’s worth making sure your team is aligned on what to look for and has the training to evaluate candidates effectively. If you’d like support building your team’s interview skills, reach out. I’d love to help!
